VW to go for Goodwood EV record with its all-electric I.D.R Pikes Peak race car

German automaker Volkswagen (VW) has announced that it would be going for the Goodwood electric vehicle record in the UK, with its custom-built all-electric I.D. R Pikes Peak race car.
The announcement by Volkswagen has come a few weeks after the I.D. R Pikes Peak race car broke the overall record at the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb racing event, for which the all-electric race car was specifically built.
With Volkswagen apparently eager to try I.D. R Pikes Peak race car at several racing events, the next record which the automaker is going after is the one set at the Goodwood Hillclimb in 2013. The record time of 47.34 seconds time was achieved by Jonny Cocker (GB) while driving a Lola-Drayson B12 69/EV.
Despite the fact that Volkswagen is officially aiming at the 2013-set record with its I.D. R Pikes Peak race car, the automaker would also evidently be eyeing the all-time record at Goodwood, which was set in 1999 by former Formula 1 driver Nick Heidfeld (D) in a McLaren-Mercedes MP4/13 Formula 1 car.
Volkswagen’s eagerness to go for the Goodwood record appears to be rooted in the fact that its “under 2,500 lbs” I.D. R Pikes Peak race car is equipped with a 43 kWh battery pack and two electric motors which have the ability to deliver “680 hp and 479 lb-ft of torque,” and give the all-electric car “a 0-60 time of 2.25 seconds.”
