Volkswagen-JAC joint venture’s first Chinese EV looks similar to iEV7S
According to Chinese automobile magazine Gasgoo, the overall appearance of Volkswagen’s first Chinese electric vehicle (EV), built in collaboration with JAC, will be fairly similar to the JAC iEV7S, except for some slight cosmetic tweaks. The report is based on the spy images of the EV which have recently surfaced from patent filings.
Volkswagen’s first Chinese EV is the product of a July 2017 agreement which the German automaker signed with JAC. The agreement pertained to a new Volkswagen and JAC joint venture for producing Volkswagen EVs in China.
As per the Gasgoo report, three new affordable EV models will be presented by the Volkswagen and JAC joint venture by the end of the ongoing quarter. The EV which recently emerged in patent filings, and appears to be profoundly based on the JAC iEV7S, is the first of those vehicles.
The decision to build EVs from JAC’s existing line-up of well-designed electric cars is a smart move by the Volkswagen and JAC joint venture. The move will enable the joint venture to bring its affordable EVs to the market in a short time-span, and will also reduce overall costs because factories and suppliers are already involved in the manufacturing process of the iEV7S.
Going by the rumours, the affordable EV models to be presented by the Volkswagen and JAC joint venture will be sold in China either under the SEAT brand or under a new brand called Sol.
