Toyota Prius Prime and Honda Clarity plug-ins hit remarkable sales in March
The monthly sales figures for plug-in electric cars for March 2018 have revealed that Toyota’s Prius Prime plug-in hybrid managed to achieve a startling sales total for the month among plug-in electric cars.
Toyota Prius Prime managed to achieve an astounding feat by outselling General Motors’ Chevrolet Bolt and Volt electric vehicles (EVs) during the month.
According to the March sales figures, Toyota set a new monthly sales record for its Prius Prime plug-in hybrid, by selling a total of 2,922 units of the model. The March sales of Prius Prime comprised a substantial one-third of all Prius hybrids sold by Toyota.
With 2,922 units sold in March, the monthly sales of Prius Prime surpassed the monthly sales of Chevrolet Bolt EVs as well as the Volt EVs. Chevrolet Bolt sales for March stood at 1,774 units, while the Volt sales for the month stood at 1,782 units.
Another remarkable monthly sales achievement among plug-in electric cars was reported by Honda for its Clarity Plug-In Hybrid sedans which went on sale four months back. As per Honda, 1,061 Clarity units were sold by the company in March. In the first three months of its availability, the average monthly sale of the vehicle was 900 units. Going by the sales figures, Honda Clarity probably ranks among the top five or six plug-in vehicles.
