In a statement released by a Tesla Motors spokesperson to EV magazine Electrek, the electric-vehicle (EV) maker has signed a ‘Cooperative Agreement’ with the Shanghai Municipal Government to allow the commencement of construction of Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai, China.
The Gigafactory 3 in China will be California-based Tesla’s new manufacturing facility for EVs. The signing of the agreement for the new Gigafactory was done in the presence of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and other company executives.
In confirming the agreement which puts an official seal on the construction of Gigafactory 3 in China, the Tesla spokesperson said that Tesla Motors has plans underway to begin the construction “in the near future,” after it gets all obligatory approvals and permits.
The spokesperson also added that the first cars will likely roll off the Gigafactory 3 line “2 years,” and said that the commencement of production at Gigafactory 3 will have no impact on Tesla’s on-the-growth manufacturing operations in the US.
