Tesla announces latest update on Model 3 production
In coincidence with its release of financial results for the 2018 second- quarter, electric vehicle maker Tesla Motors has also shared the latest update on the production of its Model 3 electric car.
According to the update, Tesla has fixed some of the bottlenecks in the Model 3 production. As a result, the company’s projected figure for Model 3 production in the ongoing July-September 2018 quarter exceeds 50,000 units.
In addition to the estimated production of 50,000 Model 3 vehicles in the ongoing quarter, Tesla has also made a notable claim that it will ‘very soon’ manage to touch a weekly production rate of 5,000 Model 3 units on its main general assembly line, GA3.
Disclosing that certain issues linked to the GA3 assembly line -- where all the components of a vehicle are added to a painted metal body -- have been addressed by the company, Tesla said that the design of this assembly line essentially enables hundreds of robotic lifters to reach components to the line.
Further adding that “bottlenecks across various stages of the Model 3 manufacturing process” have been addressed by the company over the past one year, Tesla said that it is targeting a production rate of 6,000 Model 3 units per week by end-August 2018.
