Report: Total number of electric car sold in Europe has reached ‘1 million’ units
In a recently-published report, electric-vehicle sales database EV-Volumes has revealed that the sales of electric cars in Europe recorded an increase of more than 40% during the January-June 2018 period.
According the report, the noteworthy increase in electric-car sales in Europe in the mentioned six-month period has taken the total number of electric cars in the continent to ‘1 million’ units. These electric cars include Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrids (PHEV), passenger cars as well as light commercial vehicles.
The European electric-vehicle sales data reported by EV-Volumes for the first half of 2018 shows that the sales of plug-in vehicles during the reporting period stood at approximately 195,000 units, thereby underscoring a 42% year-on-year increase as compared to the same-period 2017 figures. Norway leads the plug-in sales in Europe at present, with nearly 36,500 plug-in vehicles sold in the country in the first half of 2018.
With European electric vehicle sales having surpassed the ‘1 million’ mark, the EV-Volumes report has projected that, the total sales of plug-in vehicles in Europe will likely touch 1.35 million units by the end of 2018.
Meanwhile, about Europe hitting ‘1 million units’ in electric-car sales, EV-Volumes’ market analyst Viktor Irle said: “A stock of one million electric vehicles is an important milestone on the road to electrification and meeting emission targets but it is of course not enough.”
