NIO set to deliver ES8 all-electric SUV; opens first EV service center next to Tesla in Beijing
Chinese electric vehicle (EV) start-up NIO is all set to deliver its first production vehicle to the market; and its first EV service center in Beijing is coming up right next to EV manufacturer Tesla’s service center.
NIO is foraying into the EV arena with its NIO ES8 all-electric SUV. The first units of the SUV will be delivered by NIO very soon.
The first 10,000 units of the NIO ES8 fully-electric SUVs will be the ‘Founder Edition’ vehicles, which will be available at a starting cost of RMB 548,000 (~$83,000 USD) before incentives. The company claims that all the ‘Founder Edition’ units of the ES8 have already been sold out.
The cost of the standard version of the NIO ES8 all-electric SUV, after government incentives, begins at RMB 448,000 (~$68,000 USD) or RMB 375,400 ($57,000), which is nearly 50% less than the cost of Tesla Model X in China.
So far as the details of new ES8 are concerned, NIO had revealed at the time of the launch of the vehicle that it would be a full-size, 7-seater, all-electric SUV which will have a NEDC-rated range of 220 miles, thanks to its 70 kWh battery pack. The real-world range of the vehicle will be around 200 miles, the company claimed.
