Elon Musk: Tesla has achieved ‘5k per week’ Model 3 production milestone
Electric vehicle maker Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has revealed in an email to employees that the company has achieved ‘5,000 units per week’ milestone for its Model 3 electric car.
According to Musk’s email, obtained by Bloomberg, Tesla has not just reached its target of producing 5,000 units of the Model 3 per week, but has also hit a new record of ‘7,000 units per week’ for the combined production of its Model S and Model X vehicles.
In a confirmation that Tesla has hit the Model 3 production milestone as well as the combined production target for Model S and Model X, Musk specifically said in the email: “Not only did we factory gate 5000 Model 3’s, but we also achieved the S & X production target for a combined 7000 vehicle week!”
The ‘5,000 units per week’ Model 3 production target was a milestone which was introduced by Tesla at the beginning of 2018, after it failed to achieve its original Model 3 production goal in December 2017.
Ever since setting the ‘5,000 units per week’ target, Tesla has made a substantial increase in the production of Model 3. With Tesla having made huge investments into Model 3 production to bring the vehicle’s weekly production rate to more than the 5,000 units, it was pertinent for the automaker to achieve its target, for turning a profit on the vehicle program.
