Daimler unveils electric version of its Cascadia truck to challenge Tesla Semi
German truck manufacturer Daimler has recently announced that the unveiling of a new electric semi truck called the Freightliner eCascadia.
The new eCascadia electric truck unveiled by Daimler will be an electric version of the company’s Cascadia truck, which is a hugely successful heavy-duty long-distance truck (class 8) in North America. The eCascadia is being described as Daimler as a long-range vehicle, which will mainly challenge the Tesla Semi electric truck.
Daimler’s announcement of the eCascadia electric truck has come in coincidence with the automaker’s launch of a new unit called E-Mobility Group. The group will be responsible for developing electric powertrains for electric trucks and buses manufactured by Daimler’s several truck and bus companies.
In unveiling the new eCascadia electric truck, Daimler has revealed that the eCascadia will be a class 8 truck with a “characteristically long, U.S.-style hood,” capable of offering a range of up to 250 miles (400 km) on a single charge.
Daimler further added that the eCascadia electric truck will be able to deliver 730 hp “almost silently.” The automaker also said that the 550 kWh batteries of the electric truck “can be recharged to around 80 percent within 90 minutes,” to allow the vehicle to offer an additional range of 200 miles (320 km).
