Daimler partners with BYD to introduce new Denza electric car in China
Daimler has partnered with BYD in China to unveil a new long-range all-electric car under its Denza brand. The new Denza electric car unveiled for the Chinese market is called the DENZA 500. It is an upgraded model of the DENZA 400, which was launched in 2017.
The unveiling of the new DENZA 500 electric car indicated Daimler’s attempts to accelerate its electrification effort in China, in order to comply with the local ZEV directive which is scheduled to take effect in 2019.
The expected base price of the new DENZA 500 electric car will be 298,800 Yuan ($47,600 USD), thanks to the local incentive which China offers on the sales of electric vehicles in the country.
According to the details shared by Denza, the new DENZA 500 electric car will be equipped with a 70 kWh battery pack which will be more energy dense than the 62 kWh battery pack of the DENZA 400. Denza has also claimed that the range of DENZA 500 has been extended up to 500 km (nearly 310 miles).
With regard to the power of DENZA 500, Denza said that the new electric car will available in two versions with electric motors which will have the capability to produce a total output of 86 kW or 135 kW. Denza also added that DENZA 500 will boast “a refreshed and unique exterior design,” along with “upgraded connectivity services.”
