C&D bestows Ford Mustang Mach-E with 2021 EV of the Year Award
The Mustang Mach-E, a five-door electric compact crossover SUV produced by American manufacturer Ford Motor Company, has been bestowed with the prestigious “2021 EV of the Year Award” by American automotive enthusiast magazine Car & Driver (C&D).
C&D’s decision of choosing the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E as its 2021 EV of the Year didn’t come as a surprise since the electric SUV is one of the most compelling new entrants in the space, and lot of industry experts have highly applauded the vehicle.
The publication praised the Mustang Mach-E for its perfect balance of range and performance, in addition to affordability. Praising the EV, it wrote, “It arrives in the familiar shape and size of the crossovers Americans love, at a price that competes with gas-powered alternatives, and with a design that gets noticed.”
The publication acknowledged the fact that many of Ford’s hardcore fans are not in love with the manufacturer’s shift from conventional internal combustion engines to EVs, but it stressed that the hardcore fans would eventually start adopting EVs like the Mach-E as well as the upcoming F-150 Lightning sooner than later. The publication stressed that the company’s upcoming EVs has the potential to make a bigger splash in the future.
Available in various trims, the 2021 Mustang Mach-E SUV offers a range of 270 miles to 305 miles on a single charge. The Premium model of the electric SUV is available with a standard-range 75.7 kWh battery pack or an extended-range 98.8 kWh battery pack. The sporty GT and GT Performance models’ electric motors deliver 480 horsepower (hp) and up to 634 pound-feet of torque. According to Ford’s claims, the Mach-E GT Performance sprints from zero to 60 mph in merely 3.5 seconds. Versions with less powerful motors deliver 266 to 346 hp and 317 to 428 pound-feet of torque. Wheels sizes range from 18 to 20 inches.
The C&D 2021 EV of the Year Award is not the first of its kind accolade bagged by the Ford Mustang Mach-E SUV. Among the accolades the Mustang Mach-E bagged in the recent past are North American Utility Vehicle of the Year Award, Green Vehicle of the Year Award, and C&D Editor’s Choice Award.
C&D stressed that that it would be even more excited when EVs like the Ford Mustang Mach-E would win awards by competing with conventional gas-powered models.
