Automakers and States launch ‘Drive Change. Drive Electric.’ campaign in US
In an apparent effort to promote the adoption of electric cars by consumers, a new campaign called ‘Drive Change. Drive Electric.’ has been launched by a group of automakers and State governments in the US on Wednesday.
Automakers that have come together to launch the electric-car promotional campaign include BMW, Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Hyundai, Toyota, Volkswagen, Jaguar, Nissan, Kia, Mazda, Volvo, and Subaru.
The US states partnering with these automakers for the campaign include New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont and New Hampshire.
The key objective behind the launch of the ‘Drive Change. Drive Electric.’ campaign by the mentioned automakers and state governments is to directly encourage consumers to consider the purchase electric cars before they go to a car dealership. To achieve that objective, the campaign largely involves the creation of a website to entice potential electric-car customers, producing advertisements, as well as launching social media campaigns and events.
Highlighting the fact that the aim of the campaign is to inform consumers about the benefits of electric cars while they are mulling the purchase of a new vehicle, Fred Turatti -- General Manager of Environmental Regulation at Toyota -- said that the campaign will basically “educate and inform” the consumers in the US about the availability of “a wide range of zero-emission vehicles, electric vehicles.... at a price point they can afford.”
